Intelligent Rules Engine within their soon
to be released COGENT, Attorney Collection
Software product. COGENT has entered
beta testing and be released before the
end of summer.
What
is a Rules Engine and why build one?
Business rules are not new to software development.
Combined with a business’s operational
procedures and management guidelines, they
control how software executes within the
business. For ages business rules
have been embedded within software source
code, which makes changing them costly in
both time and dollars. This methodology
has not been kind to businesses, as it slows
down or even blocks their ability to adapt

source code. A COGENT customer can
easily create custom rules that control

even some management, tasks. The COGENT
Intelligent Rules Engine and the enterprise’s
own data will allow for automated, data-driven
decisions on movement of accounts, scheduling
of work, approval limits, routing, litigation
steps, handling of unexpected exceptions,
etc. These rules can alter processing
according to Firm, Client, Creditor, Court,
Debtor location, and by specific owned portfolios.
Rules can vary by almost any set of conditions
a firm wishes to define to drive their account
workflow or to handle exception processing.
